Company history

Founded in 1870 by great-grandfather Wilhelm Schließer (precision mechanic) as a mechanical workshop, the company rapidly grew to become a manufacturer of safes. It was also great-grandfather Schließer who introduced the sewing machine and the velocipede to the Altmark region.

Taken over after World War I by Ing. Otto Zorn, the company focussed mainly on repairs in the gunsmiths' trade. After extensive damage during World War II, engineer and precision mechanic Gerhard Zorn rebuilt the company by working as a supplier to the German state railways. Production of hardness testers for metallic materials started in 1955, and are still produced by Zorn even today.

Taken over in 1980 by the present-day owner, graduate engineer and precision engineer Bernd Zorn, the company certified to ISO 9001 and ISO 13485 with its 40 employees is today a modern enterprise with its own development department. Thanks to the significantly expanded product range, Zorn –since 2008 under the name ZORN INSTRUMENTS – has since delivered more than 35,000 testers and instruments worldwide. The products are just as much in demand in the countries of Eastern and Western Europe as in Japan, Brazil or India. Particularly with the testers from the Light Weight Deflectometer Series ZFG and CBR testers, the company has gain a leading position on the world market in recent years. The company is regularly present at trade fairs and stages its own practical seminars not only in Germany. The cooperation with the customer on the basis of partnership, the highest quality and excellent service are key tenets of our corporate philosophy.
